Snake River, Massacre Rocks State Park

Snake River, Massacre Rocks State Park Professional Review and Guide

"Below American Falls dam the Snake River leaves the highway and cuts through a small gorge. If you’re traveling the long miles across southern Idaho and need a few hours of splashy river time, this accessible stretch is a good option.

The river is mellow in this reach but includes Class II ledges at miles 6 and 7.5, as well as a Class III rapid, Angel Falls, at mile 7, where the river wraps around an island. Those seeking flatwater paddling can start and end their trips at the takeout, where the river is extremely calm. Simply paddle upstream into the canyon as far as you like and then return via the same route to your car."
