Massacre Rocks State Park

Massacre Rocks State Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"It’s a desert campground but right next to the Snake River. There are two loops: the Upper Campground (closer to the visitor center and dump station) and the Lower Campground (closer to the Snake River and fishing access). The area is mostly unshaded, but the mountains around create picturesque scenery. Electric and water hookups are provided, and the restrooms have hot showers. In the summer the park holds evening campfire programs, and 8 miles of hiking trails are designated.

Wildlife and bird watching is popular in the area; park officials say that more than 200 species of birds have been seen there. About 3 miles downstream is the Register Rock group camping and picnic area. This is high desert, with all that implies, and close to the old Oregon Trail route; ruts from that trail still are visible."
