Loess Hills State Forest

Loess Hills State Forest Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"If you wish to explore the latest addition to Iowa’s state forest system, you’ll have to drive a little and walk a little—there are two trails with different trailheads.

It’s worth the short time spent in the car, however, for the loop trails you’ll find follow ridgelines that abound with prairie remnants and then drop into valleys being replanted to forest, prairie, and food plots for wildlife. Nestled in the Loess Hills between the Soldier and Missouri Rivers, a large piece of important preserved habitat waits for your explorations."
