Preparation Canyon State Park

Preparation Canyon State Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"During the 1850s this valley was home to a group of Mormon settlers, who described it as their “school of preparation for the life beyond." Today it can be hiked in preparation for longer, steeper, more exhausting hikes in the neighboring Loess Hills State Forest and Loess Hills Wildlife Management Area.

Trails that total 4.5 miles lead through cool hollows and ascend steep ridges that overlook the 3,000-acre tract of public land to the south and west. Eight hike-in campsites provide a welcome respite from state park camping often dominated by recreational vehicles."
