Turkey Ridge Wildlife Area

Turkey Ridge Wildlife Area Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"One of Black Hawk County’s newest wildlife areas, this remote walk will take you through regenerating prairie and quiet woodlands and to a crystalline quarry. Its distance from any major city makes the clear sky one of the best places to see the stars come out at night.

This is a splendid hike for the adventurous. For the most part, unless you just want to limit yourself to the old road that leads to the quarry, there are no trails. But if you can use your eyes and ears, it is hard to venture too far off course. The Cedar River borders you on one side, there’s a farm on the other, and the county road is on the third. So just use some common sense and you can happily wander around this ninety-acre natural area for hours."
