Russian Fort Elizabeth State Park

Russian Fort Elizabeth State Park Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Russian Fort Elizabeth State Park is a 17-acre park just outside the town of Waimea. The fort is located at the mouth of the Waimea River, overlooking the ocean and the island of Niihau.

The red rock walls of the fort were constructed in 1816 and were originally twelve feet high. Built without mortar, the walls are crumbling and fragile. The shell of the enclosure is all that remains."

A hot, dry tourist stop that is not much of a hike - but a good leg stretched on the way to the canyon country of Wesy Kauaii.
