Polihale State Park and Beach

Polihale State Park and Beach Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Polihale State Park is a remote 140-acre park at the end of the road on the western end of Kauai. The park offers access to 15 miles of uninterrupted sand beach from Polihale Ridge, at the southwest end of the Na Pali cliffs, to Kekaha Beach Park.

This hike follows the long sandy strand from the base of the spectacular Na Pali peaks to Barking Sands Beach by the Pacific Missile Range Facility. The islands of Niihau and Lehua are visible across the channel. Facilities include restrooms, showers, picnic shelters and campsites."

An amazing place to spend the day. Views of the coast for miles and islands in the distance. Not a lot of people here so well worth the drive down the long dirt road.

This is a great beach but the negatives far out weigh the positives for me. First is the drive. It will loosen your fillings for sure. Be careful where you drive when you get close to the beach or you will be looking for help getting unstuck. You also void your rental agreement on this road. It's really a nice beach but I wouldn't waste all the time to go there unless you are on Kauai for a month.

You could sit on your butt here and it would still be amazing. The views of the Na Pail coastline (from the West coast of Kauai) are spectacular! Despite vehicles being able to drive on the beach, it is the best beach to stroll in the morning. The drive out here from Highway 50 is a bit crazy. Make sure you have enough food, water and gas. The road is rough so drive slowly. But once there you do not want to leave. Definitely some local traffic on the weekend that bring there beer and music, but the shoreline waves drown out all the noise. No one checks for camping permits here either. But, honestly, take your time here. It is an amazing spot to hang out for a couple days. I miss it just writing about it…
