Canyon Trail to Waipoo Falls Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Upper and Lower Waipoo Falls offer a cool retreat for hikers in Waimea Canyon. Upper Waipoo Falls is fronted by a large swimming pool set in a tropical garden. Lower Waipoo Falls has showering cascades and several small soaking pools.

The trail begins at the head of Waimea Canyon and follows the canyon’s north rim past several panoramic overlooks. A short detour on the Cliff Trail offers additional views into the canyon."

Great shorter hike under the right conditions. On a sunny day, bring lots of water and, for those adverse to our creepy crawly friends, bug spray. On a cloudy, but clear day, (like when my wife and I did it...plus some rain), all you need is a hour or two (or three if you hang out at the pools below the falls). The views of Waimea Canyon are spectacular and the falls are very picturesque. Just so we are all clear, you cannot really see the entire Waipoo falls. Only the smaller falls above the main falls are accessible. Regardless, this is a great trail, hit it early to beat the crowds and the rain...it seems the clouds like to roll in during the afternoon...? Enjoy!

A good hike with a great views for 1.5 mile hike. Overlooking Waimea canyon with big boulders on the way to the falls. The falls was somewhat dry when we got there but it was beautiful to be on top of the 800-feet source of the falls.

Overall this is a very nice and scenic hike. The main Canyon trail is well marked and provides for great views of Waimea Canyon. The one area to avoid is the side trail to the "lookout." The lookout is nothing more than a parking lot further down the highway (Kokee Road) and thus provides for a less than optimal side trek. .
