Makapuu Hang Glider Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The Makapuu Hang Glider Trail is an unmaintained trail across the highway from Makapuu Head. The trail is used by hang gliders to reach several launching sites. The extensive coastal views sweep across the cliffs from Kaneohe Bay to Koko Head. As the highway gains elevation between Makapuu Head and the rest of Oahu, you will see a trail on the left, just before reaching the left bend in the road at the top of the hill. Park alongside the road.

The unsigned trail is to the right of the fenced area. Head up the rocky path, gaining elevation to a trail split at 0.3 miles. Bear left to a ridge with fantastic views of Koko Crater and the ocean at a half mile. Follow the ridge loop to the right, reaching one of the hang gliding jump sites. The panoramic views extend from Kaneohe Bay to the islands of Manana and Kaohikaipu."
