Tropical Gardens of Maui Professional Review and Guide
"Take an idyllic, shady stroll among a dazzling array of flowers, ferns, and trees from all over the tropical world. The three-acre site straddles both sides of ’Iao Stream, which you cross on a bridge. Other bridges pass over little brooks and cascades. If you come on a weekday, you’ll have the place almost to yourself.
This is like a journey all the way around the world. You’ll walk among more kinds of plants than you dreamed existed, in colors you’ve never seen before. Orchids dangle from the branches and stems of larger plants that look like organisms from another planet. There are huge cycads, which look like a cross between a palm tree and a fern, primitive plants that appeared on the earth before Mother Nature even invented flowers. Dozens of varieties of palms—all different—mingle with splashy brilliant gingers and bromeliads that look like waxy flowers containing other, smaller flowers of a different color."
