The Redwood Trail begins near the Polipoli Campground at 6,200 feet. The trail descends through magnificent stands of towering redwoods mixed with cedars, pines and ash. At the bottom is a three-way junction with the Plum and Boundary Trails, a Civilian Conservation Corps bunkhouse, an old ranger station and a massive wall of flowering hydrangea bushes. The hike returns on the Tie Trail, a connector route between the Redwood and Plum Trails. Walk 50 yards back up the entrance road to the signed Redwood Trail on the left by the yellow gate. Walk past the gate and down the road to a camping cabin. The signed footpath is on the right, just before reaching the cabin. Descend through the dense forest to a signed junction with the Tie Trail at 0.8 miles. Begin the loop on the right fork, staying on the Redwood Trail.
