Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The Polipoli Trail begins at the campground and winds through lush old growth stands of cedar, alder, cypress and pine. The trail connects with the Haleakala Ridge Trail which follows the crest of Haleakala to spectacular vistas of Maui. The path ends at the Skyline Trail at 6,550 feet on a wide, flat overlook."

It's quite an endeavor to get all of the way up there - 7 miles of hairpin switchbacks, ending in a posting that only four wheel drive vehicles are permitted - but the views are worth it.

This is not the trail to go on if you're driving a Ford focus. I speak from hard-learned experience...
