Blowholes are created when the sea undercuts a lava cliff in which there is a crack or other opening. When the surf crashes into the shore, the water is forced up through the hole like a geyser. The height of the fountain varies with the tides and the size of the surf, and it’s especially fun to go when the tide is coming in and the water shoots higher and higher. On a weekday you’ll only share the scene with a few goats, but summer weekends are busier.
