Onomea Bay used to be an important port for ships bringing supplies to a sugar mill above the bay, but was abandoned with the coming of the railroad. The bay and the former fishing village above it were battered by a notorious tsunami in 1946, but you can follow the route of an old road along this marvelously scenic shoreline as far as Alakahi Stream, a popular swimming spot.
