Bring lots of water! Last couple miles out along the coast was pretty tough as you have to climb up to get out. The falls are incredible, jump in and go for a swim! This was the highlight of my visit to the island, absolutely incredible waterfall.

This is a great hike and most everyone can do it if you take your time and are careful. Hiking up to a 300' waterfall in the middle of a jungle. Awesome! A word of advise, stop at WalMart, by a cheap pair of tennis shoes, stomp through the mud, And throw them away when you return to your car. There is no way to avoid the red staining mud and your trip will be so much more enjoyable if you aren't worried about ruining your shoes. A Challenging, muddy hike through beautiful rainforest past a beautiful beach to a freezing cold waterfall swim. . . . What more could we ask for?! Keep in mind that good footwear is a must, as the rocky, muddy trail was slippery, and also keep in mind that the red, red kauai dirt will stain everything it touches forevermore!

Very busy trail. Only hiked 4 miles out and back to Hanakapiai beach because of late start. Beautiful views of Napali coastline from above. Needed a permit to go beyond Hanakapiai.

I hiked this 1 week before my partial knee replacement. It was hard but the views were breathtaking and so worth it! We hiked only to Hanakapiai beach because we didn't start until a little later in the day plus my knee couldn't take more. Take plenty of water and a camera with you! It's well worth it.

This hike was awesome. It is a challenging get dirty kind of hike and very rewarding. we wanted to do the whole trail but did not have the time and were a bit concerned with the challenge though i've heard it is well worth it if you can muster up the confidence. We spent the night at the first site. I could hear the waves barrelling so loud all night. Then in the morning we headed to the falls and had them all to ourselves, spectacular. on the way out we must of passed around 25 people, so get there early to have it all to yourself.

My husband and I went here as part of our stay on Kauai for our honeymoon. This was a great hike: up and down, over slippery rocks and rivers and past the super dangerous beach! Arriving at the waterfall made us forget how long the hike was, the heat, "skeeters" and then jumping into the cold pool was wonderful. My husband swam under the waterfall and sat on the back of it like a watergod, very cool! The pictures from this hike has made it into our albums, onto our walls and to our friends. It is just awesome! If you go to Kauai and only do one hike - do this one!

Many people hike the Napali Coast out to Hanakapiai Beach, then head back to snorkel at Kee'. That alone is enough for most - the trails on Kauai are very technical.
The trip up to the falls is well worth it - IF you like rugged hiking and don't mind stopping to look for the trail on occaision. The trail is beautiful, and the falls are surreal. Be sure to take a dip (a short one... brrrr!), and swim beneath the falls if you're a strong swimmer.
