Malaekahana State Recreation Area Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Malaekahana State Recreation Area is a 110-acre wooded beach park that straddles two idyllic bays and is backed by the steep Koolau Range. The hike follows the forested coastline through the tree-shaded park, beginning at one bay then dropping into the other. Mokuaula “Goat” Island, a seabird sanctuary, sits a short distance off the point. In calm weather and at low tide, the island can be reached by foot.
Walk through the lush, shady ironwood and pandanus groves up a small hill to the coastline. Beyond the park’s north border, in Malaekahana Bay, are beachfront homes. Heading east, either follow the wide paths under the forest canopy or beachcomb to Kalanai Point, the closest spot to Goat Island."
