Lyon Arboretum

Lyon Arboretum Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Lyon Arboretum is a botanical research facility backed against the Koolau Mountains in the lush Manoa Valley. The 194-acre facility and tropical garden has a vast collection of rare, endangered and exotic tropical plants with descriptions of their uses, such as food, medicine, clothing, building materials and musical instruments.

Part of the University of Hawaii, this facility is instrumental in conservation biology, horticulture and ethnobotany research. The arboretum has two short hikes. A half-mile hike leads to Inspiration Point overlooking the upper Manoa Valley. A one-mile hike follows a service road parallel to Aihualama Stream, weaving through exotic palm, macadamia, ginger, banyan trees and blooming orchids. A guide is available at the registration center."
