Wailoa River State Park Trail Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"Here, near the harbor’s edge in a bustling city, are acres of enchanting emerald lawns, a mirror-like lagoon spanned by high-arched footbridges, and many wandering footpaths and grassy routes to choose from. You can picnic, walk, jog, fish (regulated), and bicycle here.
Setting aside this much acreage in what would appear to be a highly desirable business or industrial area is wisdom, not just civic generosity, as you will read below. You’ll find memorials to Hilo’s Vietnam War veterans and tsunami victims near the Visitor Center; you may want to pay your respects at each. The memorial to the tsunami victims is a handsome work of art. The Visitor Center is operated by volunteers; I haven’t yet found it open after several tries."
