Puna Kau Trail to Apua Point Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"The Puna Kau (ka-oo) Trail leads past some interesting ruins to Apua Point, where you’ll find a wild, picturesque bay and, inland, some intriguing petroglyphs. See also the Puna-Kau Coast cautions Day 1 (63/4 miles): Follow the trail south, then southwest over alternating bare lavas and vegetated kipukas to a junction with the Keauhou Trail at 2 miles.
One hopes that now that this is the preferred route to Keauhou, it will be better maintained than formerly! Turn left (south) here on the Keauhou Trail to make a steady, hot, shadeless descent on the pali on a rough trail that may sometimes be overgrown. In a little over 43/4 more miles, you reach Keauhou Shelter."
