Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park Professional Review and Guide

"This is probably among the most active volcanic areas in the world. Here, you will not find the explosive, highly destructive type of volcano, but a more gently flowing lava that slowly builds up into relatively shallow craters known as calderas. Because of the type of volcanic activity here, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park has sometimes been referred to as the Drive-In Volcano.

Most likely on your visit you will see only steam escaping from vents in the crater and, of course, evidence of past eruptions. But that alone is worth the visit, for the park is a highly unusual experience. The crater itself and past lava flows are both educational and impressive. It is a strange, eerie place."
