Pipiwai Trail

Pipiwai Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This is the best day hike on Maui. It takes you up alongside Pipiwai Stream, first through a guava orchard, then through a magical, musical bamboo forest, and on to an enchanting pool at the base of Waimoku Falls. Try to go early in the morning so you can savor the place in solitude.

The trail follows the edge of the cliff above Pipiwai Stream among mountain apple and guava trees, both of which produce delicious fruit in spring and summer. Picking your way over tangles of roots, climb past several openings in the dense vegetation leading to trail spurs from which you can watch cascades tumble into pools below. In about 0.5 mile you reach a lava-walled overlook to Makahiku Falls, 184 feet high. The waterfall can be spectacular or just a trickle, depending on recent weather."
