'Ohe'o Gulch and the Seven Pools Professional Review and Guide
"The Seven “Sacred” Pools are the most popular attraction at this end of Maui. There are more than seven of them, depending on where you begin your count, and there is nothing sacred about any of them—the name was an invention of the tourist industry. Still, the setting is beautiful, with Pipiwai Stream flowing down ’Ohe’o Gulch, dropping over one waterfall after another, into one lovely pool after another, on its way to the sea. The last several of these pools, just before the stream flows into the ocean, are perfect for swimming.
From the parking lot, walk straight toward the ocean and the visitor center, then turn left toward a big trail sign. Just beyond is a model traditional Hawaiian house with information panels telling about how it was constructed. There is a Y trail junction here. Follow the right fork (marked trail) and walk beneath an overarching canopy of kukui nut trees and a big banyan tree with hundreds of aerial roots reaching down to the ground to form new trunks."
