"For a nice, pleasant day hike with the dog, the Bear Hair Gap Trail is a gentle 4-mile loop in Vogel State Park. For a strenuous day hike or a challenging overnight backpacking trip, consider the Coosa Backcountry Trail. Located mostly within the boundaries of Vogel State Park, the route is a long and sometimes taxing hike that can take 6–8 hours to complete. For overnight camping, expect an 18–24-hour trip that requires a backcountry permit."

Did this trail in about a day and a half. The fall colors were beautiful and the trail was varied enough to make the route interesting. I do wish, however, that I had waited a bit longer for the foliage to clear out and allow us to see the great views from the higher elevations! There were pretty regular impacted camp sites along the trail, though only a few where right next to water. So if you want to camp away from the crowd, make sure to bring a jug to carry water to the camp site. Great trail, definitely a workout but not too challenging to deter the average hiker.

Did a solo overnighter counter clockwise and got to enjoy rain and fog for the major part of the trip. The Trail is in good shape with some parts just having recently been improved. The steep climbs make this a very strenous trail, especially when wet. I camped close to the Grassy Knob Rd. intersection which has convenient access to Long Branch Creek. After that water becomes scarce for a while. Camp Sites are abundant and I only met two other groups during the hike.
