Nice easy hike along rolling hills beside the lake. Downers - ever present sound of the public beach across the lake in summer. Folks with picnics and bank fishing dot the first mile then rather secluded. Saw belted kingfisher, yellow rumped warbler, large sand turtles in tributary creeks. Trail intersects but is separate from horse trail following the same contours. Continuous shade from mix of hardwoods and pines. Nice trail for the dog - a good chance to make use of her pack and get in shape for the mountains. Note strict leash rules but the park has "off leash" areas if the trail isn't exhausting enough. Consider packing in a fishing rod but don't expect much luck without live bait and a cork - the bank is crowded with trees and brush and coves are not easily accessible for the same reasons.
