Tallapoosa River

Tallapoosa River Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"After paddling the Tallapoosa it’s hard to decide whether it is a mountain river with Piedmont characteristics or a Piedmont river trying to act like a mountain waterway. The Tallapoosa flows over gravel and past rock outcrops aplenty through a wooded corridor. Gentle riffles and occasional shoals keep the river moving, but overall it is quite easy to paddle. There is very little development along the banks.

Starting at Steadman Road near the town of Tallapoosa, the river begins its winding journey south and west, picking up a few feeder branches before reaching US 78. Here the river nearly doubles back upon itself before the paddle ends at the Liner Road bridge."
