Savannah-Ogeechee Canal

Savannah-Ogeechee Canal Professional Review and Guide

"This small park is an easy way to get into some prime floodplain habitat located just west of Interstate 95. A short, level trail offers easy birding down to the Ogeechee River and back, and it can be birded in only an hour or two. This is one of the best examples of this habitat that is both easily accessed and this close to the coast.

Key birds: Swainson’s, Prothonotary, Hooded, and Yellow-throated Warblers, Mississippi Kite, Acadian Flycatcher, Yellow-throated Vireo, Barred Owl. This eTrail provides detailed information on birding strategies for this specific location, the specialty birds and other key birds you might see, directions to each birding spot, and helpful general information."

This is a very nice trail with year around interest. Fall and spring have wildflowers. In the spring the tides are very high and much of the area is flooded. There are a lot of side adventures off of the main trail, both short loops that tie back, and longer out and back trails. Be careful though, some trails that you think should loop back will end at private property or die off into the forest. In all, this is one of the most scenic walks around Savannah.
