Little River of Southern Georgia

Little River of Southern Georgia Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The Little’s tannic acid-stained water bubbles playfully over small limestone ledges and between brilliantly contrasting white sandbars along the way to its juncture with the Withlacoochee River southwest of Valdosta.

Remote and enticing, the Little is canopied with Ogeechee lime, water elm, and scattered cypress. The river’s course is substantially less convoluted than that of similar blackwater streams in the Coastal Plains. The current is moderate to slow, access is good, and the river is suitable for camping."

The Little River at Reed Bingham State Park above the dam is gorgeous. The waterway is generally wide and slow moving making for easy paddling. I don't know if insects and alligators are considered hazards. I wear bug spray and avoid the gators when I see them. I love this place. I can go up and back in 2 to 3 hours. Below the dam and outside of R.B.S.Park below the Hwy 37 bridge is another amazing stretch of canoe-able river, but again it doesn't take long to reach the end of open river.
