Chattahoochee Bend State Park Flat Rock and Wild Turkey Trails

Chattahoochee Bend State Park: Flat Rock and Wild Turkey Trails Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Tucked away in rural Georgia, Chattahoochee Bend State Park feels like a remote corner of the world. To reach the park and its trailheads, you follow quiet country roads to an area where there is little civilization. Not long after you enter the park, you reach one of its most attractive—and shortest—trails. Winding for less than a mile, the Flat Rock Trail eases its way through mature hardwoods to visit a family of granite outcrops that are classified as southern flatrock, an imperiled ecosystem where dwarf plants survive in thin patches of soil on the stone surface.

In this section of the park, you can also opt for a longer trek on the nearby Wild Turkey Trail, which runs deep into a hardwood forest and drops into secluded stream basins. In this rugged terrain, you’ll likely see wild turkeys (thus the trail name), whitetail deer, armadillos and the other usual residents of southern forests. While the hike described here is fairly long, the path runs beside the visitor center, so you could take a break there, or even spot a car at the visitor center to shorten the trek. For those who want a long hike, you can continue beyond the Wild Turkey Trail and follow the Tower Trail to the Chattahoochee River."
