Black Rock Mountain State Park Campground

Black Rock Mountain State Park Campground Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Black Rock Mountain Campground defies any campground stereotype—it has a 48-site campground with water, electricity, and cable TV hookups that is cram-packed with RVs, but on a dead end road on a mountaintop rib ridge is a 12-site, walk-in, tents-only area that complements the rest of the worthwhile sights and activities of the state park. The walk-in sites are the reasons this campground is in this book, and these are the sites worth describing."

This campground is utterly fantastic if you're looking for a secluded, peaceful spot to pitch your tent. The walk-in sites are all perched around a ridge down a hill and a fair distance away from the drive-in camping area. Each walk-in site is a decent walk from the parking area, and (with one or two exceptions) each site is nicely removed from the others and from the road. The site my wife and I stayed at (E) had a large and nicely-graded gravel tent pad and a gorgeous view of the treeline looking down the mountain. The bathhouse was clean, but has no provisions for dish washing other than a single spigot, so bring a tub or bin to wash your dishes in. All-in-all, I cannot recommend this campground (at least the walk-in sites) enough.
