Cheatham Hill Trail

Cheatham Hill Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The trail follows a gravel road from Burnt Hickory to Dallas Highway and then parallels a low ridge to Cheatham Hill. After taking you to explore Civil War entrenchments, the trail descends to Kolb’s Farm Trail, returning to Dallas Highway along a paved road. On the return to the trailhead, the hike leaves the main trunk and explores the watershed of Noses Creek."

Detailed Trail Descriptions from Our Guidebooks

"This section traces a path across the Cheatham Hill Battlefield and through woods where Union troops once waited to assault the Rebel defenses. It descends across John Ward Creek before winding across forests and meadows to Powder Springs Road near the Kolb Farm, site of vicious fighting on June 22, 1864. The path then meanders through forests and shallow creek valleys on a return to the eastern side of Cheatham Hill. (Please do not walk on the historic earthworks.)" Read more

This was a fairly decent hike. My wife and I hiked it together with our black lab/shepherd mix. We hiked both the upper and lower falls trails. I recommend hiking both trails in order to feel like you put in a good day's hike. Both trails have good inclines and declines but seem quick and short. Great scenery! Lots of guests hiking the trails.

We took our dog and son on this hike. The weather was perfect. Because the stream runs so close to the trail, our son and dog were able to skip the trail and walk all the way back from the falls in the stream. Anyone who has a 10 year old son will understand how exciting this was for him.
