Amicalola Creek

Amicalola Creek Professional Review and Guide

"The Amicalola gets its name from the Cherokee phrase for tumbling water. It’s called a creek on most maps, but if it is merely a creek, it is a magni?cent one. The scenery is spectacular and remote, and the rapids in the lower section are sometimes stupendous.

If it is really just a creek, it is simply the best whitewater creek in the state. The upper sections are a popular training ground for beginning and intermediate paddlers. The lower section is more challenging and remote, and requires more rainfall to be runnable. Located entirely in Dawson County, the creek runs through the Dawson Forest Wildlife Management Area, and it remains almost completely wild and remote. Its upper east fork, Little Amicalola Creek, contains the picturesque Amicalola Falls, the tallest waterfall in Georgia."

Amicalola River was some of the best whitewater I have found in Georgia. Solid Class II and ClassIII throughout, the water is still low, the water is only around 1ft deep, If that river was to get above 2 or more you would be looking at one hell of a ride
