Suwannee River

Suwannee River Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Make sure and get your free permit to cross the Suwannee River Sill from the state park office. Also remember that no camping is allowed between the put-in and the refuge boundary, shortly beyond the Suwannee River Sill. The paddle begins in the heart of the Okefenokee Swamp.

Take the 0.3-mile canal to Billys Lake, where blackwater, naturally darkened from swamp tannins, reflects tall cypresses towering above bright-green lily pads on the water’s edge, where alligators lie on the shore in surprising size and numbers. Evergreen bay trees give color in the winter."
