    Cartecay River Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Beginning and intermediate whitewater paddlers love the Cartecay, one of the most popular whitewater rivers in the mountains of northern Georgia. The upper 3 miles of scenic paddling are a placid prelude to 7 miles of medium-dif?culty whitewater. What used to be a run through a wooded mountainous area is no longer.

Many people live year-round on the banks of the Cartecay; lawns that stretch down to the edge of the river are common below Lower Cartecay Road. Paddlers and area residents maintain a generally amicable relationship that becomes strained from time to time. The forest becomes predominant again below the covered bridge at Mulkey Road, thanks largely to the Rich Mountain Wilderness Area."
