Broad River

Broad River Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The Broad River is known for its historical importance and relatively unspoiled nature, with numerous shoals and mild rapids meandering through farmlands and bounded by bluffs of up to 200 feet in height. With 50 miles of navigable river from its inception to Thurmond Reservoir, the Broad offers nearly year-round opportunities for canoeing and camping except in periods of extreme drought.

A 6-mile run in the upper section contains the river’s most dif?cult rapids. In the lower section, the Broad becomes a pastoral and deeply forested stream well suited for longer relaxing canoe-camping trips. The Broad River Water Trail (BRWT) begins on the Hudson River or the Middle Fork Broad River—the Broad’s two major tributaries—and ends at Bobby Brown State Park on Thurmond Reservoir."
