Jacks Knob Trail: North to Brasstown Bald Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"The Jacks Knob Trail stretches 4.5 miles from Brasstown Bald to a junction with the Appalachian Trail. At its midpoint, the trail crosses GA Highway 180. If you were to begin at Brasstown Bald and do the entire trail as an out-and-back hike, it would make for a challenging day trip. Another good option is to split the trail into two separate, moderate dayhikes, each beginning at the parking area at the intersection of GA Highway 180 and the GA 180 spur road.
To explore the northern half of the trail, begin at the GA 180 parking area, at about 2900 feet of elevation, and climb moderately to the Brasstown Bald parking area, which lies at just over 4500 feet of elevation. This trip takes you up slopes of oaks and pines with an understory of mountain laurel, and just past the 2-mile mark an opening offers an inspiring view of mountain ranges to the east."
