Red Top Mountain State Park Trails Professional Review and Guide
"Red Top Mountain State Park covers 1,776 acres of land on the shores of Allatoona Lake, just a short distance northwest of Atlanta. The US Army Corps of Engineers reservoir has almost 12,000 acres of water and is a popular destination for boaters and anglers from the metro Atlanta region.
The park features boat ramps, a swimming beach, picnic areas, and historic pioneer and mining areas. Abundant deer, squirrels, wild turkeys, and other wildlife are present, along with birding opportunities. The Piedmont forest of oak, hickory, and pine, combined with many wildflowers, make this a fascinating day-hike area. A total of 16.5 miles of hiking and multiuse trails wind through the park, offering short walks in the forest or longer day treks. The featured hike is on the Homestead Trail."
