Coosawattee River

Coosawattee River Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The Coosawattee below Carters Lake is dam controlled, and the Army Corps of Engineers has a standing agreement to provide at least 240 cfs of flow at all times, making this part of the river runnable year-round. When generating beyond the normal flows, the flow rates generally don’t increase much, but call ahead (706-334-2248) for the generation schedule. (NOTE: Schedules are usually given for that day only.)

Leaving the dam at Carters Lake, the river flows steadily between high wooded banks and past fallen trees aplenty. The shores are little developed, and the current is joined by numerous named tributaries as it makes its way to Montgomery Bridge. A few Class I shoals provide a little action on a pleasant float."
