Vogel State Park Coosa Backcountry Trail

Blairsville, Georgia

Vogel State Park: Coosa Backcountry Trail Professional Review and Guide

"The sign at the beginning of the Coosa Backcountry Trail warns that this 12.5mile loop is “More than a day’s hike.” I’ve done it in a day, and consider it a pretty good challenge, but it’s much easier on the body to approach this as an overnight excursion.

Actually, one of the best aspects of Vogel State Park is that its Coosa Backcountry Trail is perfect for intermediate backpackers who are seeking a trail that is easy to access but still offers a challenge and access to remote backcountry. The trail begins off the side of a main park road, so it’s easy to reach, but it runs deep into the backcountry to escape the park crowds and offer plenty of solitude. The loop is difficult, with great gains in elevation, whether you hike it clockwise or counterclockwise."
