Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"This hike up to the A.T. via the Jacks Knob Trail takes you to the source of the Chattahoochee River. The mighty river, which supplies drinking water, recreation, and transportation to much of the Peach State, begins at a little spring along the A.T.

This section of the Jacks Knob Trail lies entirely within the 16,400-acre Mark Trail Wilderness, which is named for Ed Dodd and Jack Elrod’s comic strip character, a naturalist who protects the fictional Lost Forest National Forest. Dodd, who originated the strip, was a Georgia native who lived along a tributary of the Chattahoochee in Sandy Springs."
