Brasstown Bald, Jacks Knob Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The Jacks Knob Trail travels south from the parking area on Brasstown Knob. From there it stretches to Chattahoochee Gap on the Appalachian Trail (AT), just below Jacks Bald.

Spring and fall migrations of warblers, tanagers, thrushes, and raptors make the Brasstown Bald area especially popular with birders. Also, watch for ruffed grouse and ravens, the large crow of the high mountains. Any of these may be spotted during the walk down the south slope."

A good hike on a gravel switchback type of trail. Several grades were slightly challenging, but the steps at the beginning of the trail were the toughest! Great Falls at the bottom of the trail and a great view of the "Sleeping Bear" at the top. We had camera gear in our packs, and got some great shots of water and wildflowers, plus colorful insects and birds.I would recommend leaving those in not-so-good shape at the picnic and parking area at the top.
