Savannah Lock and Dam

Savannah Lock and Dam Professional Review and Guide

"The Savannah Lock and Dam is actually in Augusta, and gets its name from the Savannah River. This park is right on the river and is a great place to look for Mississippi Kites soaring over the water, as well as a few other interesting breeding species. A small park, it can be birded in less than an hour. It is dominated by large hardwoods, with a few pines and some swampy areas.

At the far end of the park are some fields worth checking in winter for sparrows. Key birds: Mississippi Kite, Yellow-throated and Prothonotary Warblers. This eTrail provides detailed information on birding strategies for this specific location, the specialty birds and other key birds you might see, directions to each birding spot, and helpful general information."
