Red Top Mountain State Park Homestead Loop, Sweetgum, and White Tail Trails

Red Top Mountain State Park: Homestead Loop, Sweetgum, and White Tail Trails Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Covering 12,000 acres, Allatoona Lake draws crowds of boaters and anglers, but it’s also surrounded by a rolling forest of pines and hardwoods with more than 15 miles of trails.

The best path in the park is the Homestead Loop Trail, which winds through cool, shaded ravines and skirts the lakeshore where you can swim, fish, and picnic in coves located just off the path. The trail rises high into a diverse forest of loblolly and Virginia pines mixed with hardwoods and the lake below forming a bright, shining backdrop."

"Red Top Mountain State Park covers 1,776 acres of land on the shores of Allatoona Lake, just a short distance northwest of Atlanta. The US Army Corps of Engineers reservoir has almost 12,000 acres of water and is a popular destination for boaters and anglers from the metro Atlanta region. The park features boat ramps, a swimming beach, picnic areas, and historic pioneer and mining areas. Abundant deer, squirrels, wild turkeys, and other wildlife are present, along with birding opportunities. The Piedmont forest of oak, hickory, and pine, combined with many wildflowers, make this a fascinating day-hike area. A total of 16.5 miles of hiking and multiuse trails wind through the park, offering short walks in the forest or longer day treks. The featured hike is on the Homestead Trail." Read more
