Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area: Gold Branch Trail Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"The Gold Branch Trail takes you along the shores of a section of the Chattahoochee River with an interesting history. In an early effort to bring electricity to the growing city of Atlanta, a dam was constructed in the early 1900s just south of the Gold Branch area where the river was narrow and shallow with a set of falls.
Measuring 1031 feet long and 56 feet high, it was the largest dam in the southeastern U.S. For the most part, the moderate Gold Branch Trail roller coasters along the riverbank and Bull Sluice Lake, the body of water formed behind the dam. The landscape is attractive, primarily composed of hardwoods, and you may see big, beautiful swans trolling across a river inlet."
