This was a nice easy hike with a ton of historical information. We were greeted by two young deer as we walked up to the trail head. It ended up taking us 2 hours 45 min. on the trail, but I was stopping to take a ton of pictures. We got to see, chipmunks, squirrels, woodpeckers, geese, crows and some weird jelly like substance on tree branches, lol.

We will be going back again and taking the kids and the dog.

This is a very nice little couple hour trip. There are ample signs to describe the battle that took place here. It is easy to put yourself in the time and envision what it must have been like. The trail is easy and wide. The two forts have enough left to picture them in the 1860's.

We hiked this trail today, was a nice 2 hour walk. Trail is a little confusing in the beginning with loops, but all in all, quite enjoyable. Would recommend it.

We hiked most of this trail this morning. Several trees down across trail, some signs down including the trial sign in the parking lot(it is lying in a ditch next to the gate). Still very interesting. Take a map of the trail because it loops around and you have to back track several times, makes it a little confusing. The view from the berm on the lake at parking lot is really pretty overlooking the lake. We were on the trial about 90minutes and saw no one else.

We live within a few minutes of this trail, and hike it through out the year. If you go counter clockwise, visit the civil war memorials, then climb up to the old fort, and visit the old stable area, then continue arount to the right and down to the old railroad bed, follow this along the lake, at the gate several miles, turn back as you enter the deep cut pass look for the stairs up to the Star Fort on the right. Continue through the cut back to the parking area. Nice hike easy, moderate to star fort.
