Atlanta Beltline Westside Hiking Trail

Atlanta Beltline Westside Hiking Trail Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"The Westside Hiking Trail has a much more urban feel than the Eastside Hiking Trail: Houses and apartments are visible along much of the route, and the path runs through an industrial
warehouse district. But there are some interesting features along the way, including tunnels that are painted with splashy patterns and amusing murals.

The most interesting section lies at the beginning as you traverse Ashview Heights, one of Atlanta’s first planned black communities. While neighborhoods in Atlanta were segregated through the turn of the century, the development of Ashview Heights from the 1920s through the 1940s marked the beginning of desegregation in Atlanta. After walking another mile you reach Westview, a neighborhood that developed between the 1890s and 1930s as Atlanta’s streetcar lines expanded."
