Ortega Stream Valley Trail Professional Guide
Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook
"This trail leads through verdant oak woodland and is located at Ringhaver Park, operated by the city of Jacksonville. The thick, shady forest allows year-round hiking. Reach a spur trail where an elevated boardwalk avails a top-down view of a freshwater hardwood swamp before reaching a dock on the Ortega River. Enjoy the aquatic aspect of the trek before returning to the trailhead.
Ringhaver Park, run by the city of Jacksonville, is a large multipurpose facility, seemingly with a little something for everyone—including hikers. It offers tennis courts, playgrounds, ball fields, and picnic facilities, all situated on the west bank of the Ortega River, a stream starting in far western Duval County. Though much of the park is developed, a large swath of hardwood swamp and woodland close to the Ortega River remains in a natural state."
