"This is a pleasant and popular easy run downstream through floodplain swamp and hydric hammock. The river is open and scenic. You are likely to see the most wildlife in winter and spring.

This paddle is great for the beginner and interesting for any paddler. Enjoy this in winter and spring, when it’s at its best.This trip is best paddled on a Friday, Saturday, or Sunday, when motor vehicles have access to Dead River Park at the end of the trip. Gates close at 5.30 p.m., so plan your trip accordingly. During the week the park is open to pedestrians only."

This section is generally well maintained, but there are several large rocks located in the middle of the river soon after launching at the state park, and there is always the possibility you may need to haul over a log or two depending on water level. You may also run into dense patches of water hyacinth.
