Sinkhole and Gumswamp Trails Professional Review and Guide
"These two remarkable walks offer a good look at the Woodville Karst Plain that extends from Tallahassee to the Gulf of Mexico. The term “karst” refers to a limestone terrain that has been shaped and changed by both rain and groundwater. Although quite pure to drink, raindrops become weakly acidic as they absorb carbon dioxide from the air and from decaying vegetation. This mild acid then has the ability to eat away and dissolve the limestone bedrock that lies under much of Florida."
--M. Timothy O'Keefe, Hiking North Florida and the Panhandle (Falcon Guides).
