This loop, accessed by one of the many doubletrack trails coursing through Elinor Klapp-Phipps Park, explores the quiet side of the preserve. The singletrack rambles through hilly woods and across open fields, through live oak hammocks, and near Lake Jackson, where views of the marshy waters await. Pass through a grove of planted pines before completing the hike. The 20-plus mile trail system at Phipps Park has hiker-only trails, mountain biking trails, and multiuse trails. Hikers are allowed on the 10 miles of multiuse trails and 7 miles of hiker-only trails, the exception being the 4.0-mile dedicated mountain biker–only Redbug Trail. All trails and most intersections are marked and signed, making for easy hiking and allowing you to concentrate on the park’s beauty rather than navigation.
