Silver River Professional Guide

Detailed Trail Description from our Guidebook

"Silver Spring, which feeds Silver River, has long been a central Florida tourist attraction. Located east of Ocala, much of the beautiful Silver River corridor below the springs is now part of Silver Springs State Park.

River access has been improved with the establishment of Silver River State Park. Now you can follow the current downstream to the Silver River’s confluence with the Ocklawaha, rather than beating your way upstream from the Ocklawaha all the way to the headspring. The Silver River is where the ?rst glass-bottomed boats were used. And they are still in use today, to see the array of aquatic life below the water’s surface."

This is a great run and my friends and I have paddled it at least 6 times. The water is always clear and has a nice current from the KP hole. Make sure to get there early as the later in the day you go the more crowed the river becomes. But if you get there really early its nice and quiet and really peaceful. Oh don't forget,NO disposable containers on the river.

The one plus is probably low depending on your equipment. We made a real mistake taking our 15 touring yaks on this one.

With a short sit on top this is a 1 with a tour yak it is a 2. Many sweeps. Low branchs and very sharp turns. You will have better turning skills when you are done.

The water speed means you have to constantly anticipate your turns.

The scenery is wonderful, wildflowers, alligators, birds and somethings that went bump in the dark. Deer were prevalent.

Dont take young children who you are not able to reach at all times. And if you do take a touring yak make sure your rigging is clear as you move through.
